TVE- Caught in the Act!

TRANSLATION

The Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) this Thursday published a "black list" which includes 15(sic!) countries or territories which do not co-operate in the international fight against money laundering.

The countries or territories which do not co-operate are Panama, Russia, Israel, the Phillipines, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Grenadines, Nauru, Marshall Islands, Niue, St. Vincent, St. Christopher, Nevis and Gibraltar. (Total 16!)

The FATF, part of the OECD, published the list to prompt these countries to exert themselves in the international fight against money-laundering. 17:55 22 June 2000

The lies, the damned lies and Spanish media pronouncements on Gibraltar!
TVE Teletext report, above. Thanks to Slim Simpson!

The REAL FATF press release can be found here. Don't take my word for it- read it from their own site yourself!

Also, here is what the full report actually had to say about Gibraltar. (Selection from the full 99-page report, also on the FATF web-site.)

See the BBC's version of events.

Obviously someone at TVE can't add, or just thought no-one would notice that, out of racism, one more country had been added to the list. This is just one of the more obvious examples- there are many more. Most of them "damn by implication", such as articles mentioning money laundering and drug smuggling which almost always mention Gibraltar in some way.
